Hilary Scott tours nationally and internationally as a singer-songwriter, pianist, guitarist, and violinist. Her music weaves lyrical and musical tapestries with a raw emotional edge. Jeff Dame of Northeast In-Tune has said this about Hilary and her music, “Hilary has the potential to be as big as the likes of Alanis Morisette, Tori Amos, or Sheryl Crow. Listen to her now and you can say ‘I’ve been in from the beginning.’ ” Hilary started her solo performance career in Seattle in 1999, but moved to Columbia, Missouri in 2000, where she formed the Hilary Scott Band. She and her band have toured the Midwest and beyond, opening for artists such as Little Feat, Tanya Tucker, Beth Orton, Jonatha Brooke and others. Hilary’s music is comfortably chameleon-like, inspired by a mix of rock, folk, blues, and country. Comparisons offered when people speak of Hilary’s sound range from Joan Baez to Billie Holiday, however Hilary’s sound remains truly her own. Hannah Vogel of the Sandpoint Reader writes: “Hilary is uniquely herself in her music and onstage. From coffee shops to blues houses and festivals, wherever she goes she and her music are genuine. It’s not often you meet a musician you might also like to have as a best friend.” Hilary Scott was voted Best Local Musician by readers of Inside Columbia magazine two years in a row (2006 and 2007) before moving back to the northwest in July of 2007, and was honored by being the first woman featured on their cover in the December 2005 edition of the same magazine. Hilary and her band were accepted for promotion in the prestigious Missouri Arts Council touring roster, and the Heartland Arts Council (Midwestern equivalent) touring roster and have appeared in both annually since 2005. Hilary has an impressive record of CD sales, and according to Kevin Walsh of Streetside Records in Columbia, is one of the highest selling local artists of all time. Physical sales of her CDs have reached more than 3,000 copies. Current numbers collected from digital download sites where Scott’s music is available show that Hilary has 11,114 digital downloads and paid listens as of October 27, 2009. Hilary’s My Space site has received nearly 100,000 visits, with more than 7,500 friends and over 53,000 song listens (with no manipulation from “auto friend add” or “auto listen” software gimmicks - those are genuine numbers). In 2004, Hilary began working with Nashville producer Matthew Wilder to help carry her songs into the radio realm, releasing an EP entitled “Out of the Wilderness.” These songs have been well-received by both fans and radio. John Kulidas of WCSU (Chicago State University) said, “Hilary’s in our rotation and we’re definitely looking at her as an up-and-comer. Just the other day one of my colleagues was asking me, ‘where are all the Carol Kings nowadays?’ Well, here you go!” After signing a publishing deal with Wilder in 2005, Scott had the opportunity to work with Nashville royalty such as songwriters Angela Kaset and John Goodwin, collaborating on songs that dip into different genres such as dance/techno, and pop. In 2007, Hilary was discovered on My Space by agent Vanessa Feltner of Premier Talent International and began extended tours overseas. Through PTI Hilary has so far performed in Korea and Vietnam. Independently Scott has also toured in Italy with the D’Alessio trio, and she continues to balance US and overseas touring. In November Scott will travel to Sanremo, Italy to participate as one of the few international artists accepted into the Festival Degli Autori which will provide her the opportunity to collaborate with songwriters, producers and musicians from Italy and other areas of Europe, and to perform for labels and industry insiders. Hilary is currently collaborating on a project with legendary songwriter Keith Colley, who is also founder of the “Can Do” project for which Hilary wrote and is recording “America’s Song.” Hilary is signed to the independent label Belltown Records, and released her 7th album, Consonance, which is a joint venture with Wes Wingate and Hometone Records, in May of this year. Hilary is set to release a solo piano/vocal album entitled Indigo this December. Other Hilary Scott albums include Hypothermia; The Floating World; Come In, Come In: LIVE, Out of the Wilderness, Road to Hope, and the Best of Hilary Scott Live Volume One.
