Rock ‘n’ Roll Truth’s “Music Worth Buying” Reviews Kaleidoscope

Robert Kinzler, in his Rock ‘n’ Roll Truth blog’s Music Worth Buying, notes that, “This year continues to see a number of wonderful new studio albums and special previously-unissued live releases.”  Hilary Scott’s new album, Kaleidoscope, is one of the four albums he reviewed on July 20th.

Artist: Hilary Scott

Title: Kaleidoscope (Belltown Records)
You might like if you enjoy:Hilary Scott and The New County Line, Sarah MacLachlan
Tell me more: Singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Hilary Scott has returned with a five-song EP that extends her creative reach beyond the rootsy blues and Americana territory she has championed on previous releases. Kaleidoscope finds Scott exploring pop-rock with the same zeal and authenticity that has marked her approach on past solo titles and her work with The New County Line. Focusing on songs co-written in Nashville during a special songwriting project, Scott’s top-tier vocals connect with the approach on the EP, notably on the yearning “Just A Shame,” starry-eyed “Almost Home” and on the modern dance track “Free Country.” Information:                 Check out the review HERE!

Review:  It’s been a few years since we last reviewed Hilary Scott, and her latest EP was worth the wait. Her musical sound has developed since then and is so much more than typical modern country, with a more alternative pop-rock sound. It truly showcases the eclectic musical taste of a seasoned artist, and is one of the best we’ve reviewed in quite a while. All five songs are different and we think the best is yet to come. We recently featured “Just a Shame” in our Monday Mashup column, but every one of these tunes could potentially be highlighted. We are truly looking forward to seeing which direction she takes in the future, and believe she will continue to be a shining light on the indie music scene. The EP closes with “Free Country,” which belongs on Top 40 radio.

Recommendation:  Rush out and get this one.

Great Review of Kaleidoscope by Music Morsels!

A great review of Kaleidoscope by Music Morsels!

Hilary Scott – Kaleidoscope
“…singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Hilary Scott packs quite the punch into this five song EP. A retooling of songs previously written and produced with several Music City talents, Hilary again proves to be capable of standing up against any musicians out there these days in several facets. The most notable facet is her incredibly versatile voice, which can range from ethereal croon to bluesy rock power and country-edged twang. Her stunning vocal control and fantastic range alone make for highly listenable music, but there is much more to be heard. The subtly intricate but noticeably highly talented musical parts are the perfect compliment to her voice with neither overwhelming the other. The songwriting is as interesting a mosaic as Hilary’s voice itself with the often lush vibes sprinkled in with just the right doses of edginess and sporadic forays into R&Bish throbs. The lyrics are heartfelt and often topical, completing this delicious feast. Yes, there are many talented musicians in Nashville, but Hilary Scott continually proves that she should be head and shoulders above many of them.” – MW

Kaleidoscope reviewed by Take Effect!

Take Effect has this and more to say about Hilary Scott’s new album Kaleidoscope:

Belltown, 2021

Listen to Kaleidoscope

“A diverse multi-instrumentalist whose vision of songwriting rarely sits in a single genre, Hilary Scott moves deftly between the lush influence of her Washington home and the country nods of Nashville, where she recorded these tracks with some of Music City’s finest.”
